Anyone remember the Peanuts Cartoon? Charlie Brown, and Lucy and Pigpen? Years ago, after reading Emmanuel's suggestion that we "see yourselves as truly God-like beings with the delicious task of spreading Light wherever you are," I imagined myself having bits of light drop off me as I walked along the road, the way bits of dirt dropped from Pigpen.
Try it yourself. Each time you walk along a certain road, imagine that you are a creature with so much inner light that bits are shed with each step - along the sidewalk, scattering on the people nearby, into the air to be spread by the wind. Not dust. Light.
This is empowering for many reasons: the idea of us having this much inner light, the way our attention is in the moment, and well, it can make us feel better.
There are no right or wrong ways to do a meditation. The instructions are guidelines; adapt them to who you are and to your needs at that particular time. Be curious about the process itself.
Remember most meditations become richer the more you practice them. They reveal more of themselves. It can take practice to remember to do a meditation when you need to, and it can take practice to go through the steps. But that's why it is called practice, and for most of us, we practice for the rest of our lives.
